Chino Yulo

Chino Yulo stands out as a leading figure in contemporary Philippine sculpture, renowned for his steadfast dedication to and continuous exploration of his art. His extensive body of work, featuring materials such as wood, metal, resin, acrylic, and glass, deeply explores natural forms, capturing their shapes, movements, and rhythms. Yulo masterfully combines these elements into a visual symphony, evoking the splendor of nature alongside profound abstract expressions of emotion and thought.

Yulo’s artistic philosophy centers on the principles of flow and balance, which are vividly reflected in his creations, from detailed tabletop pieces to grand large-scale installations. Each sculpture showcases his impeccable sense of equilibrium, creating a harmonious interplay between materials and forms that engages viewers and fosters a deep connection to the natural world.

Before achieving prominence as a sculptor, Yulo pursued various professional paths, including furniture making, insurance consulting, scuba diving, surfing, organizing mixed martial arts events, and founding a music website. Despite these varied careers, his passion for art remained constant. Early experiences sculpting with wood and adobe shaped his artistic path, guiding him toward an appreciation of natural materials.

A pivotal moment in Chino Yulo’s career came in 2019 with his debut at the year-end show at J Studio. Following this breakthrough, he has been featured in numerous exhibitions, including four solo shows: Marahuyo (2021) and Depth (2022) at Pintô Art Museum, Vast at 1335 Mabini, and Sugbo at the Visayas Art Fair in 2023. His dedication to diverse forms of artistic expression is evident in his contributions to projects such as the Pintô Underwater Sculpture Museum for Marine Ecosystem Regeneration and Ballet in Pintô, where he explores themes ranging from the creation of artificial reefs to the embodiment of ballet’s grace.

In January 2024, Yulo’s work was featured at Maison Et Objet in Paris, a prestigious international trade fair for home collections. This event introduced his art to a global audience, broadening his artistic reach. He also participated in Art Fair Philippines with Pintô Art Museum in February 2024.

Beyond exhibitions, Yulo’s art extends to commissioned pieces for private collectors and corporate clients, enhancing the impact and accessibility of his work. Each sculpture embodies his philosophy of flow and balance, presenting a sense of beauty and completeness. Through his art, Chino Yulo invites viewers to experience the delicate balance between materials and his enduring, evocative vision.
